Counseling Intern - College and/or Guidance Counseling

The Counselor Intern positions are unpaid learning positions provided to persons working on their PPS credential for school counseling and/or certificate program for college counseling. Positions are closely supervised by school site and/or regional counseling supervisors and are a combination or service and learning.
What You Will Do:
Possess a beginning, working knowledge of a variety of forms of academic, social, emotional, and college and career pathway supports for high school students from primarily low-income, first-generation-to-college backgrounds
Collaborate with school site supervisor on learning plan and goals for the internship
Create and implement scaffolds, supports, and interventions for the purposes of fostering a positive and productive learning environment for all students at Aspire
Collaborate with school on universal interventions for students such as peer mediation, conflict mediation, etc.
Foster healthy and productive family engagement through such activities as family nights and meetings
Consult with school site supervisor on crisis and child abuse reporting if/when necessary (this is a mandated reporter position)
Consistently and routinely update student files and other documents for tracking student progress
Continually improve counseling skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
Keep a set schedule consistent with your program of study calendar and Aspire school calendar
Exhibit positive rapport with students, families, and colleagues
Create positive and consistent communication with Aspire supervisor about counseling goals and processes
Attend staff meetings as possible based on university requirements and program of study calendar
When possible, attend IEP and/or inter-departmental meetings for students receiving special services (i.e., students with IEPs, 504 Plans, RIT plans, etc.)
ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to counseling supervisor. Collaborate with school site teachers, and other staff, as well as Home Office student support staff and other counseling interns within Aspire Public Schools.

1) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
-Demonstrated commitment to students and learning
Experience with students grades K-12
Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and interact effectively with different audiences
Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple cases concurrently
Ability to work as a part of a team
Demonstrated ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties
Deal with obstacles and constraints positively
Additionally, the ability to perform the following duties is highly desirable: Provide Bilingual counseling services
2) Minimum educational level:
Enrollment in a program leading to a masters in school counseling and/or a certificate in college counseling
Enrollment in a program leading to a PPS Credential

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
